  • Understanding “special populations” categories of and various types of disabilities and what makes up the category

  • What impacts the needs of special populations may or may not have on your business or organization in regard to providing services to the community during a disaster

  • Functional limitations and other specific issues that need to be planned for during the preparedness and response stages of a disaster to ensure that the special needs populations are served and protected;

  • How to develop a continuity of operations (COOP) plan that will allow the agency to prepare and resume service after a disaster or emergency situation

  • Identifying members of special populations who can be used as valued resources to fill valuable and needed roles, in the planning, preparedness, response, and recovery stages of an emergency
